GMMK 2 96% Quick Review and Mods - Surprisingly great prebuilt keyboard!
I was fortunate enough to get the GMMK 2 via the early access preorder. I opted for the 96% layout since I already have a lot of 65% keyboards and could use the numpad for work. I was pleasantly surprised by the good performance of the Glorious Fox linear switches out of the box, as well as the included plate mount stabilizers.
While the out of the box performance is fine for most users, since this is a keyboard modding channel, I decided to open it up and see where we could make some improvement. I clipped and relubed the stabilizers, and did the band-aid mod to dampen the spacebar and backspace bottom outs. I also added a layer of PE foam between the PCB and switches in order to achieve a poppier sound.
Overall, with just a few simple and cheap mods, the GMMK 2 can be made into a very respectable keyboard. And at the price of $120 for the prebuilt, it's actually a really good value that I think will help bring our keyboard hobby to a lot of new customers.
If you have any questions or feedback, please leave a comment and I will try to get back to you. If you liked the video, please like and subscribe to help me curry the favor of the algorithm gods.

In short, sort of but not really. But removing the plate foam, plate screws, and standoffs does accentuate the sound and leads to a softer typing feel. And using higher profile keycaps such as MT3 or SA can also lead to a deeper, thockier sound. Note: in the footage with other the keycaps, all foams, standoffs, and plate screws were used. At the end of the day, the GMMK Pro just has a more mute...

I just picked up the GMMK Pro and wanted to do a special build in it. This is my first 75% keyboard and I'm digging the layout. It's also the first board I've tried with a polycarbonate plate option, so I went with that choice. I enjoyed the Boba U4Ts tremendously on my Tokyo60 build, so I'm using them on the GMMK Pro too. Lastly, I recently discovered the Olivia keycap set and really like them...

I heard great things about the Boba U4Ts so I had to try them out myself. These are really great, moderately priced switches that perform better than many more expensive options! The build quality is great and the tolerances are tight, meaning they sound and feel great out of the box. For a more refined experience, lightly lubing the rails and springs is the method recommended by their creator,...
M1 MacBook Pro - Magic Keyboard Sound Test

Yes, I know it's not a mechanical keyboard, or that special in any way. But it is one of the better keyboards I've used on a laptop (for an ultraportable, I don't do big gaming laptops), and it was surprisingly tactile for something with such low key travel, and it actually has a fairly distinct sound. I'm pretty sure all the Magic Keyboards sound like this (not just the ones on the new M1 MacB...

I picked up some Alpacas and rebuilt my NK65, replacing the Glorious Pandas with these. Overall, they're very smooth (even before lubing, there is a very thin layer of preapplied lube) yet still provide a good thock (though much less noisy than the GPs). Modding the Razer Huntsman Mini: Easy steps for better sound!
Переглядів 285 тис.3 роки тому
I recently got the new Razer Huntsman Mini with purple clicky optical switches. I really enjoy the 60% form factor, but noticed that the keys were pinging (or reverbing) when they were depressed. It's fairly subtle and most won't notice it, but having used many other keyboards without this issue, I set forth on an afternoon-long journey to mod the Huntsman Mini and remove this annoying sound. I only have $20-30 left on my budget right now so trying to see if any pbt keycaps in that range would be an upgrade to the double shot ABS ones that they come with. Thanks!

    also to add to make it even better if you pinch the metal on the side of each switch to make it tighter it makes it alot better as well. (make sure you dont do it too much) it made a world of different along with lubing and filling the case up with sound dampening foam.

    The PE foam lowered the sound overall, but it's still a high pitch plastic noise, which seems to be the keycap's fault. Some higher quality keycaps might help eliminate most of the remaining noise.

  • @neil741
    @neil741 Рік тому

    So I used some foam to dampen some of the noise and it worked great and makes it sound actually more like a clocky key switch, I almost broke it all in the process but it ended up fine. I used a different type of foam that I had to squeeze down to fit in order to put the screws in put I think that made the dampening better than it did in the video.

    • @bigxie

      Once you have the plate removed from everything, you could use something like a metal file to make the stabilizer openings larger. Just be careful to clean all the metal shavings off to prevent any from getting on to the PCB and potentially causing any shorts.
